TitleKenneth Garlick research on other artists
Date[c 1950s-2000s]
LevelSeries
Extent29 files (3 boxes)
DescriptionKenneth Garlick was an art historian and Keeper of Western Art at the Ashmolean Museum from 1968 to 1984. During the second half of the twentieth century, Garlick carried out major, pioneering scholarship on Sir Thomas Lawrence PRA (1769-1830) and, to a lesser extent, on other artists contemporary to Lawrence.

These folders contain photographs of portraits, correspondence, and cuttings from sales catalogues collected by Garlick, concerning portraits by artists other than Thomas Lawrence. The pictures and cuttings are organised alphabetically by artist surname, and function similarly to the artist boxes in the Library.

The following artists have their own folders within the series:
- Margaret Sarah Carpenter
- George Henry Harlow (see also KJG/3 for Garlick's correspondence and research into Harlow's portraits)
- John Hoppner
- William Owen
- Joshua Reynolds
- Martin Archer Shee
- Gilbert Stuart
Additionally, there is one folder of cuttings related to paintings 'thought to be by Thomas Lawrence' (but which are not by Lawrence).
