Papers of Sir George Scharf (NPG7) - Records relating to the Gallery’s first Director, Sir George Scharf and his work for the Gallery and external bodies, including extensive research notes and sketches of portraits in various public and private collections. Also includes Scharf personal papers such as journals and sketches and family papers.

Registered Packets (NPG46) - A large series of files relating to portraits acquired in the Gallery’s Primary Collection. These files primarily contain acquisition and conservation records as well as other records created, generated and received by the Gallery specific to the portrait.

Postcard Biographies (NPG58) - Gallery correspondence with literary figures who were invited to write short biographies of figures from British History. The short biographies were to be included on the reverse of postcards illustrating the Gallery’s Collection. Material also includes drafts and sometimes final versions of postcards.

National Portrait Gallery Warding and security staff records (NPG82) – Correspondence, reports and policies documenting security in the Gallery. Includes material on action by suffragettes and the protection of the Gallery during the First World War.

Records Associated with George Frederick Watts (GFW) – Personal and business correspondence of George Frederick Watts and manuscript material pertaining to his ideas and theory collected and assembled by Mary Seton Watts following his death. Index catalogue of the works of George Richmond and a typescript of extracts from Richmond’s diaries covering 1830 to 1893.
