DescriptionWilliam Edwards Miller (1851-1940) was a draughtman active between 1873-1929. He was born in Florence the son of John Miller. who was also a portrait artist, whilst his brother John Douglas Miller was an engraver. Miller was also a collector of clocks and watches and presented many to various museums including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Science Museum and the Museum of London.

Miller's sitter book spans the years 1874-1910 and amongst the names of the many sitters painted by Miller are W. E. Gladstone and several of Gladstone's children and their families in 1876-1877, also in 1877 he painted Alice Liddell and Queen Victoria's youngest son Prince Leopold. Miller is associated with 4 portraits in the NPG's Collections: NPG 1933, George Rolleston whose sitting is recorded in the sitter's book; NPG D20764; NPG D38433 and NPG D44804. The front page of the sitters book contains brief information on the volume and Miller which is believed to have been written by Alfred A Miller, believed to be Miller's nephew.
