DescriptionKenneth Garlick was an art historian and Keeper of Western Art at the Ashmolean Museum from 1968 to 1984. During the second half of the twentieth century, Garlick carried out major, pioneering scholarship on Sir Thomas Lawrence PRA (1769-1830) and, to a lesser extent, on George Henry Harlow (1787-1819). Over a period of roughly 50 years, Garlick received and responded to correspondence from other researchers and from the public regarding Thomas Lawrence's and George Henry Harlow's portraits.

These folders contain the correspondence to Garlick concerning works by Harlow, copies of Garlick's replies, and notes made by Garlick on the portraits. The notes and correspondence are organised alphabetically by sitter surname.

See also KJG/4 for pictures and sales catalogue cuttings of portraits by Harlow.
