TitleProfessional Engagements/ Pictures sent away, January - August 1788, pp. 8v-12v
Date1788
LevelSub-File
Extent5 pages
DescriptionThe entries of pages 8 - 9r run in chronological order under the title of ‘Professional Engagements’. After this, the left hand page becomes a list of ‘Pictures sent away & where to & by what conveyance [sic]’, which quickly changes to 'Pictures sent home', while the right hand page remains a list of ‘Professional Engagements’. This pattern runs throughout the 1788 entry pages in the volume. Sizes of portraits are no longer listed.

Entries across these pages run from 5 January - 7 August 1788.

With the change in titles, 'Professional Engagements' is now used to categorise pictures which are 'to be finished', and pictures 'sent home' appears to refer to the houses of owners.

The portraits noted below are therefore split into those listed under Professional Engagements and Pictures sent away/home.

Portraits referenced in the Engagements Book have been verified against Alex Kidson's 2015 catalogue raisonne of Romney's paintings, and where possible have been listed below to include full names and correct spelling in square brackets. Entries in square brackets alone do not cohere with the catalogue raisonne and appear as written. Duplicate mentions of the same sitter have been removed from the below list, which otherwise appears in original order.
