Description | Consists of records created and accumulated by Scharf as a result of his work for the National Portrait Gallery; first as the Secretary and Keeper and later as Director. Scharf's duties comprised:
-administration of the Gallery -acquisition of portraits (including extensive preparatory picture research, which enabled the Gallery to secure the best and most important portraits for the nation) -management of the Collection (including preparing catalogues, displaying and conserving portraits)
