DescriptionTaylor is glad to hear that Watts has received the 'special varnish' and writes of the difficultly sending petroleum by rail; Taylor writes that the mastic solution is so weak he doubts it will affect colours if they are dry and hard, and for this reason Taylor believes it will be safe to paint over the mastic, although recommends testing this theory; Taylor writes with regard to the canvas, that the one recently sent is suitable for tempera and the older one is better to be used for oil painting; Taylor writes that he is preparing a canvas with whiting and ochre and can send it to Watts if he so wishes.
