Extent1 piece (3 pages)
DescriptionTaylor returns a specimen of the 'Purple Lake' colour which Watts sent him; Taylor writes that the 'rubbing' has a certain value, but the value would be greater if a portion of the specimen was excluded from light during exposure; Taylor's conclusion of 'Purple Lake' is that it is 'essentially fugitive in nature' and the length of time it will remain stable is 'purely a question of strength'; Taylor writes of his delay in replying to Watts but writes that he wished to send him his own trials of the 'Purple Lake' colour, made under various conditions and have been exposed for three years; Taylor asks that Watts return the specimens as they are very valuable to him; Taylor apologises for addressing Watts wrongly, as he believed at H. R. A. was a abbreviation of 'Honorary Retired Academician'.
